Since we opened shop in 2005, we have been committed to reducing the environmental impact of both the events we create and our operations. Sustainability and being passionate about protecting the planet has always been part of LimeLight’s DNA and for a while we simply defined it as “our company culture”.
We address environmental considerations at every stage and include sustainable factors in every decision to purchase a product or contract a service for events and our operations. To reduce the impact live events have on immediate surroundings and the environment, we address each area of event operations including:

Purchasing

Waste management

Energy production

Water management

Transport

Communications
Our goal is to be a leader in sustainable business practices for the special event and experiential marketing industry. We also address broader issues such as:

Energy efficiency

Greening the supply chain

Minimizing chemical usage

Fair trade

Using sustainable materials and recyclable alternatives
To gauge progress in moving an event towards sustainable management, we set goals and measure results.
Greening Our In-House Operations
Green Purchasing
We seek products and services identified as environmentally preferable as much as possible. This means those that are more responsible to the environment in the way they are made, used, transported, stored and packaged and disposed of. We are an approved green business member of Green America.
Green Event Standard
We follow the new Z2010 Sustainable Event Management Standard set out by the national Canadian Standards Association in December 2010. Previously we worked with the British Standard BS8901 and green event guidelines developed by the Green Meeting Industry Council. A sustainable event entails incorporating considerations of the environmental, social, and economic impacts of hosting an event into all areas of event planning and management in order to minimize negative impacts, augment positive benefits, and create positive legacies for present and future generations. Lorien Henson serves on the Canadian Project Mirror Committee developing the ISO 20121 Sustainable Event Management Standard (due in 2012).
Giving Back
We're committed to giving back. Each year, in support of environmental causes we contribute $20,000 in free event management and consulting services, on top of offering a discount of our services at reduced rates for non-profit organizations. In 2009 and 2010, we chose to invest our services with Eco Fashion Week, Earthsave Canada and Bridge To A Cool Planet.
Transportation
We encourage our staff to use the most efficient mode of transportation to travel to work and for tasks - walk, bike, public transportation or car-sharing vehicle. All staff is provided memberships to car-sharing networks. Each car-sharing vehicle removes over 15 privately owned vehicles from the road and means less noise, less congestion and less stress on green space.
Paper Reduction
We cut down on our use of paper, including the use of electronic pay stubs, electronic filing systems, and the requirement of all project reports and proposals to be sent electronically. Our office paper is 100% post-consumer recycled, bleach free and FSC certified.
Technology
We donate all of our used electronic equipment to non-profit organization, Free Geek Vancouver.
Recycling
Our company has an extensive recycling program, including paper, plastic, containers, printer toners and batteries. The goal is to reduce our waste as much as possible.
