Lorien Henson
Creative Director | Partner
Lorien's event career started with a twist of fate. She was interviewing for an IT job and the CEO mentioned he just bought a live performance theatre and needed someone to run it. Instead of the IT job, Lorien was offered the role of General Manager for Herald Street Theatre in Victoria, BC. At age 24, Lorien quickly revamped the fledgling company with a $1 million renovation, back-to-back hit productions and combined this with new revenue generating Ticketmaster box office, café and art gallery. She oversaw all kinds of events – music and media launches, concerts, plays and art exhibitions.
Lorien's next move was to travel the world solo. Her one-year adventure turned into four years. She circled the globe three times including Central America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Africa (Cape Town to Cairo).
While travelling the world, Lorien became more aware of global issues, rekindled her passion for the environment and decided to focus her career towards combining activism and events. During her time overseas Lorien was based in London working as the Assistant Editor at Rubshoulders, a celebrity lifestyle and fashion online magazine for Arcadia Group, UK's largest privately owned clothing retailer. Lorien also produced theme parties at clubs in London and Tokyo.
Lorien returned to Canada to run the newly launched Event Marketing division for national media firm Newad Media in Vancouver. Lorien's clients included brands L'Oreal, Best Buy, Telus, Dove, Greyhound, LUSH and Fido. In 2005, Lorien founded LimeLight to produce sustainable live events and experiential marketing programs with a vision to help define green living as cool rather than green being the old trademark for tree huggers and Birkenstock sandals with socks. Most importantly the company values – sustainability, authenticity, respect, honesty, integrity – would be shared by staff and clients while contributing to the community.
As an advocate for raising awareness of sustainability through live events, Lorien is the founder of the green networking event, Power Plant and sits on the board for Eco Fashion Week and Projecting Change Film Festival. Lorien is committed to developing sustainable event management solutions for live events and sits on the Canadian project mirror committee developing the new ISO 20121 standard for sustainability in event management.
Lorien loves travelling, snowboarding, yoga, vegan cooking, riding cruiser bikes, theme parties and collecting costumes. Each year Lorien makes the trek to experience different outdoor festivals with all-time faves being Glastonbury and Burning Man. She was born to travel with citizenship in three countries – Canada, Australia & UK – and her unusual name is from J.R.R. Tolkien's trilogy book Lord Of The Rings.
